Okay, so sometimes I go all FBI level analyst of Joseph Smith's progenitors on facebook and steal their images... Gracia Jones (descendant of Alexander Smith, I think) posted the images above, of Emma Smith holding baby David, with her other three biological sons and her adopted daughter Julia. I really love watching the documentaries that Gracia Jones her other relatives have produced, talking about Emma Smith and her relationship with Joseph Smith; they are literally Joseph Smith's direct descendants, how cool is that?
Last summer I truly learned A LOT about the prophet Joseph Smith, before that- I SERIOUSLY couldn't tell you the year that he died, now I am shocked when someone else doesn't know the day, month and year, let alone the years that each and every one of his children were born and died... Why do I know all of this? I'm a writer and am writing about Joseph Smith and Emma. Clearly I am not the best writer in the world... but I felt compelled to finish it.
I read Lucy Mack Smith's book, "History of Joseph Smith, by his Mother", two times and read the unedited version of it on the Joseph Smith papers. I noticed how Emma Smith was praised a few more times there, which was NOT published in the actual book (that Brigham Young edited).
The Joseph Smith and Emma Hale Historical Society has been very beneficial to my research, recently, since they REALLY have gotten into the details about Emma Smith's life, finding out that Elisha Bibbins was her preacher when she was a little girl, on their website (see "about the photograph"- page where I recently updated about her link to JS Bibbin's Father). I highly recommend seeing the uplifting documentaries, that you can see on Amazon Prime (I watched them all last summer as I began researching him to death). It's been fun.
Back to the above image, I just can not get over how cute Fredrick looks holding a little, domesticated dog. I just always imagined them as farmers in grundgy falling apart clothes, but they almost look totally modern, I was shocked that the little pug as a modern looking dog collar as well... JS III's face is just about as heartbreaking as Emma's, yet Julia exudes so much joy and light. Plus, what is cool, is that they all seem to be salt water paper prints (supposedly all from around the year 1845, again... salt water prints were very much in the public domain and gaining it popularity, slowly, but it is happening in the United States in the 1840s).
